The Choi Nam-su Battalion
12 사단 최남수 대대(89 포병대대)
육군 제 12 사단 89 포병대대는 2012 년 8 월 7 일부터 ‘최남수 대대’라는 부대명을 갖게 되었다.
사단에서 유일하게 창설기를 보유한 역사가 살아 숨쉬는 부대로, 1952 년 6 월 28 일 창설 후 금화지구 전투, 백마고지 전투에 참가, 1,000 명에 가까운 적을 사살하고 적의 주요무기 다수를 파괴한 전과를 자랑한다.
최 남수 소령은 초대 대대장이다.
1950 년 8 월 6 일 안강/ 기계 전투에 이어 원산 수복작전 등 역사적으로 손에 꼽는 주요 전투에서 뛰어난 지휘관으로서의 능력을 보였으며, 대대 창설의 주역임과 동시에 6.25 전쟁 당시 강력한 화력으로 훌륭한 전과를 세움으로써 화랑무공훈장, 충무무공훈장을 받은 전쟁영웅이기도 하다.
최 남수(1923.3.5~ 1972.12.22) 대령은 일본 와세다 대학을 다니다 육사 7기 특기생으로 들어가 1948 년 9 월 5 일에 2 개월 간 진해에 설치된 미 제 6 사단 포병에 의해 2 개월간 소위로 간부 양성 교육을 받았다.
그 후 미국 포병학교에 가서 교육을 받고 돌아오기도 했다.
그리고 대령으로 예편하셨다
Choi Nam-su Battalion (89th Field Artillery Battalion),
12th Infantry Division, Republic of Korea Army
The 89th Field Artillery Battalion of the Republic of Korea Army’s 12th Infantry Division was officially designated the “Choi Nam-su Battalion” on August 7, 2012.
It is a historically distinguished unit, the only battalion in the division that retains its original unit colors, symbolizing a living legacy of proud tradition and history. Since its establishment on June 28, 1952, the battalion has participated in major engagements such as the Battle of the Geumhwa Area and the Battle of Baekma Heights (White Horse Hill), where it achieved outstanding combat results, including the neutralization of nearly 1,000 enemy troops and the destruction of numerous key enemy weapons.
Major Choi Nam-su was the battalion’s first commander.
Following his participation in the Angang–Gigye Battle on August 6, 1950, Major Choi also took part in historically significant operations, including the Recapture of Wonsan. Throughout these engagements, he demonstrated exceptional leadership and command ability. As a central figure in the establishment of the battalion and a key artillery commander during the Korean War, he contributed decisively to battlefield success through overwhelming firepower.
In recognition of his distinguished service and valor, he was awarded the Hwarang Order of Military Merit and the Chungmu Order of Military Merit, and is remembered as a true war hero.
Colonel Choi Nam-su (March 5, 1923 – December 22, 1972) studied at Waseda University in Japan before entering the Korea Military Academy, Class 7 (Special Cadet). On September 5, 1948, he completed a two-month officer training program as a second lieutenant under the guidance of the U.S. 6th Infantry Division Artillery, which was temporarily stationed in Jinhae. He later attended the U.S. Army Artillery School for further professional education before returning to Korea.
Colonel Choi retired from active duty with the rank of Colonel.

어머니인 엄수월(1931.4.21- 2026.1 13) 화가는 10년간 해당거사님께 붓글씨와 묵화의 가르침을 받았고, 65 세에 유화로 전환하며 박남재 학장님께 사사했다.
대한민국대전에 두 번 입선했고, 많은 대회와 국제 전시회에 참가했으며, 네 번의 개인전도 가졌다.
My mother Eum Soo Wol is an artist who studied calligraphy and ink painting under Haedang-geosa for ten years. At the age of 65, she transitioned to oil painting and studied under Dean Park Nam-jae.
She was selected twice for the Korea Grand Art Exhibition, participated in numerous competitions and international exhibitions, and held four solo exhibitions.
노년의 아름다움을 그림으로 승화시키는 작업을 하셨다.
She transformed the beauty of old age into art through her paintings.
